Antique Ottoman Settee

Antique Ottoman Settee Louis XV Style

Three-seater Ottoman by Delenoncourt,

around 1760

Dimensions of Antique Settee : H 140 x W 210 x D 75 cm

This Antique Ottoman From: Belgian Antiques Dealer

This sofa, or "Antique Ottoman" or Antique settee, is owed to the work of the french cabinet-maker Delenoncourt, who mastered his craft in 1752 and made many archaistic Regency-type chairs.

The very type of this antique corbeille chair demands a degree of virtuosity. Delenoncourt shows here his merit as a joiner possessing the canons of the style of his period, through the softened curves of the legs and the floral repertoire sculpted with art: hooks, peonies and roses, delicate foliage scrolls and subtle little flowers. Note the cross rails of the back and bolsters, visible and prettily designed on a type of chair that normally comes with hidden rails.

End of the XVIII th century.

Dimensions of Antique Chaise Lounge : 89 H x 144 L x 72 W cm.

Original : Antiquarian, Paris.

This lovely Antique Chaise Lounge , is extremely comfortable and yet perfectly up to date. One can note the altogether flexible and nervous forms on which runs a subtle but not very deep carving made of acanthus leaves and foliated scrolls, accentuated by rosettes, flowers and vases. The sabre legs ending in caprine hoof remind of the “à la Turque “ style, close to the French revolution and curiously inspired by Etruscan forms, of which Madame Elisabeth was so found for her castle of Montreuil.

Reproduction Antique Furniture

Reproduction Furniture

To Reproduce Antique Furniture masterpieces by Chippendale, Sheraton, Hepplewhite, Phyfe, other craftsmen , you have to know the Fundamentals, tools, woods, hardware, joinery, dovetailing, finishing .

Finding rare Antique Furniture which can be identified by a detail in the carving, a special mount and perfect proportions is the essential first step dictated by the love of antique furniture and wood. The woods worked in Reproduction antique furniture procedure are mainly beech and mahogany. the frames are mortice and tenon built with pegs where the model for the era used them. Canework should be done entirely by hand, strand by strand, each strand being knotted and the knots hidden at the back of the chair using the traditional rabbet method.

To adhere to the proportions and depth of the carvings of each original model to the nearest millimetre, the craftsmen work with the piece from the period in front of them to serve as their yardstick.

the craftsmen should be chosen for their artistic sense and their sensitivity to subtleties. These qualities truly bring the chair to life according to its shapes and carvings or the reproduction of a very specific shade of finish. However, the personal touch of each crafstman is part of a strictly-defined methodology, the result of many years of tradition, to retain a continuity in the tones of finish offered. It is this discerning mastery of creativity and the reproducibility of patina which guarantees the mark of a crafstman of luxury items.

The marks of two hundred years of wear and tear are faithfully reproduced, from dust and woodworm holes to the lustre and natural patina of a wood which has aged gracefully.

To allow the wood of reproduction antique furniture to be deeply impregnated with successive layers of wax, each piece stands for several days in our workshops between the different finishing stages. This technique gives the wood antique furniture a natural ageing effect and a warmer and livelier patina. What is more, all the patinas will become more pronounced over the years, just as that of an inherited piece of antique furniture.

Egyptian Style Furniture : Antique Side Chair

Egyptian Style Furniture : Antique Egyptian Side chair

ca. 1870

Dimensions : 94.3 x 45.7 x 45.7 cm

This Egyptian chair combines Neoclassical and Egyptian Furniture of decorative motifs with a form reminiscent of the bentwood café chairs popularized in the 1860s by the Viennese firm of Thonet Brothers. A number of New York cabinetmakers produced neo-Egyptian furniture during the 1870s, but the firm of Pottier and Stymus was most often associated with this style (see also the center table, 68.207a,b). This chair is not labeled, but the name Ingersoll painted on the seat rail likely refers to E. Ingersoll, whose name appeared on the Pottier and Stymus list of employees for 1869. This chair was probably made as part of a set for the Bloomingdale family of New York. It retains its original custom-made tapestry upholstery, which adds further support to the attribution to Pottier and Stymus, who devoted a section of their Lexington Avenue factory to the production of hand-made tapestry upholstery material.

Antiquing Glaze Furniture

Painting Technique: Antiquing Glaze Furniture

Transform a ordinary piece of wood furniture into a stunning antique with a little bit of paint and glaze.

Materials:

wood piece of furniture (Ikea bedside table, Aspelund, Natural) - oil-based primer - 2 colors of satin-finish paint - paintbrush - stencil - small foam roller - dark paint and glaze mixture - rag - cheesecloth - polyurethane

Antiquing Glaze Finish Steps:

1. First step in antiquing furniture with Glaze is to Cover an wood piece of furniture completely with an oil-based primer. Let dry.

2. Apply the base coat of paint. A satin finish will make applying glaze easier. Using paint with a flat finish can make the glaze blotchy. Applying paint with a paintbrush gives your piece an aged look while using a foam roller creates a smoother finish. Let dry.

3. Place the stencil in desired location, paint over it and use a damp rag to easily wipe extra paint off the satin finish basecoat. Carefully remove the stencil.

4. For the antiquing look, mix a glaze by adding one part dark brown paint to three parts glaze. Stir thoroughly. Brush the glaze generously across your Furniture piece. If you have a large piece of furniture, work in sections to avoid drying lines. Wipe the glaze off right away using either a rag or cheesecloth. Cheesecloth gives you a smoother finish and a rag gives you a wiping effect. Continue applying glaze and wiping it until you achieve your desired finish. If you mess up, use a damp rag and the paint will easily wipe off the satin finish basecoat.

5. Highlight all of the architectural features by taking the same glaze and brushing it into the crevices of door or drawer fronts. Wipe off excess.

6. Final step in antiquing furniture is To highlight the edges of your furniture piece, take the brush with a little bit of glaze on the tip and running it along all of the edges at about a 45-degree angle, leaving a line of glaze.

7. After your glaze dries, add a coat of polyurethane to protect the antiquing finish look.
